European community has started to grow at an unprecedented rate. People needed accommodation and they needed it fast. The relatively low cost have put the pre-fabricated and pre-stressed concrete to fruition. And so the first pre-fabricated housing estates came to life. They were originally designed to be reminiscent of ships, that gently flow through the ocean of green postures, parks and common areas. Paneláky, as they are colloquially called in Czech Republic, are a relic of a bygone era. An era of cheap, uniform design… Years have passed and the now faded pieces of civil engineering are still here, overwatching the growth of a new community.
I've begun documenting those remnants of a bygone era a couple of years ago. Some of the buildings were painted in a colorful way to ditch the depressing look, though the result often leaves much to be desired. Some were touched only by the passage of time.
Digital retouch of the captured frames left me wondering. What if I could make my own compositions? What if others could create them too? This project was originally designed as an interactive part of my photographic exhibition.
Feel free to download the facade you generated! You can print it, fold it and glue it together and surround yourself with architecture of the past.Hello!
My name is Adrian and I’m in love with the creative process. I have been trying to show other people how I view the world through photography since I was about 12 years old. Starting with a point and shoot film camera that my mom graciously borrowed me and later on moving into the world of digitized pictures with my first camera-phone I have begun to vitalize this new pass-time activity of mine. Years have passed and my newly acquired hobby has turned into a passion.
